Exhibition & Christmas Lights Switch On, 30th November 2024

Come and see our wonderful murals in the Abbey Church small hall on Saturday 30th November, 2024. Bring friends and family to admire the amazing 3m large paintings that have been created over the last 6 months. While visiting the exhibition, please write a letter to Santa and make an LED light Christmas craft before watching the parade and lights switch on. A great start to the festive season!

Window Wanderland, 1-8th October, 6-9pm

Many artists decorated the windows of our art room at The Lighthouse with tissue paper and black paper. There was a large amount of glue used too! One window is an abstract stained glass window, the other is Halloween themed.

Fringe by the Sea, 2024

This year we included some older artists in our art celebrations at Fringe by the Sea with a special “Paint & Sip” event. It was warmly received and over-subscribed. We also made fun cartoon pictures, gave a nod to the Olympics by decorating gold medals and created beautiful nature displays using flowers and leaves from the surrounding woods as part of the Summer harvest festival, Lughnasadh.

Summer Holiday Workshops, July & August 2024

Make your own slime. We have the best recipe and most exciting glitter, colours and accessories to make this favourite slippery, drippy mess!

Tie-dye t-shirt & socks. Always a cool art project to create in a happy environment that welcomes the odd colourful splash. All materials supplied.

Make a miniature room in a box. Use fabric, wallpaper & cardboard to make a little room with a table and bed. Miniature cutlery and plate/cup included for visiting tiny guests.

Create with clay and papier-mache. Who wants to make an island in 3D with volcanoes and tidal waves? Come on, it’s going to be great.

Beginners baking. Smash the biscuits, add the marshmallows and melted chocolate, then roll in vermicilli = a perfect holiday snack. Lots of tasting to check quality of ingredients necessary!

Paint-a-thon. Paint as many pictures as possible with watercolours, acryllics and poster paint. This time we are painting amazing cloud canvases, so easy for everyone to achieve an excellent picture.

Painting Adventure. Create a chalk trail from the artroom to the woods to look at the trees and sky. After a quick park visit, return to paint the branched canopy peeking through to the sky and birds above.

Beach art. Using old willow branches and ribbon, who knows what shapes we will create each afternoon on the beach? Our masterpieces may be washed away by the tide but the memories will live forever!

Easter & Summer Camps 2023

During the Easter & Summer holidays we ran holiday art camps. Daily art sessions from 9.30am - 3.30pm in the beautiful Abbey Church Hall. The proximity to the beach allowed visits to sketch the view of the islands, make sculpture in the sand as well as lots of paddling and digging for treasure.

Art Visits

Occasionally we take a trip into Edinburgh by train to visit the art galleries on the Mound and have a picnic lunch in Princes Street Gardens. If times allows, we stop in at the Bank of Scotland to design our own coins then check out the old fashioned toys in the Museum of Childhood. Weather permitting, we pause to sketch the beautiful buildings in the Royal Mile.

“Little Artists” is part of the Creative Educators’ Network so we receive outstanding information about the art exhibitions in Edinburgh. By learning more from the Curators beforehand, this means the exhibition can be translated in an age appropriate manner during the art visit.

Fringe by the Sea 2023

Being part of such a fantastic arts festival is a pleasure, in 2023 year we created outstanding Totem Poles and lots of fabulous crowns. Children from all over the world attended and enjoyed creating art projects together.
